Copié d’un manuscrit irlandais de la première moitié du XII° siècle, le taureau et le lion, symbolisant les évangélistes saint Luc pour le premier et saint Marc pour le second, sont représentatifs de l’influence de l’art des vikings alors christianisés. Toutefois, le cadre géométrique entourant les attributs des évangélistes rappellent le style des évangiles de poche usités au IX° et X° siècle.

Copy of an Irish manuscript from the first half of the 12th century. The bull and the lion symbolising the Apostles Luke and Mark respectively, are representative of the influence of the art of the Christianised Vikings. The geometric frame surrounding the attributes of the Apostles, reminds us however, of the style of the pocket Apostles used in the 9th and 10th centuries.
