Cette très belle lettrine, le P de « Primum quidem »
qui commence le texte des Actes des Apôtres, est copié
d’un des plus beaux manuscrits de l’abbaye de Saint- Gall
en Suisse. On y décèle, à travers la tête
de l’animal en haut et les entrelacs une influence de l’art
irlandais.
Traduction du texte :
Premier Chapitre :
J’ai fait un Premier récit, o Théophile, de tout ce
que Jésus commença de faire et d’enseigner, jusqu’au
jour ou il fut enlevé au ciel après avoir donné par
le Saint Esprit, ses instructions aux Apôtres qu’il avait
choisis.
C’est à ceux qu’il s’est montré vivent
après sa passion, leur en donnant des preuves nombreuses dans ses
apparitions qui durèrent quarante jours, leur parlant du Royaume
de Dieu.

This very magnificent lettrine, the “P”
in “Primum quidem” which opens the text from the Acts of the
Apostles, is copied from one of the most beautiful manuscripts of the
Abbey of Saint Gall in Switzerland. The animal head and the interlacing
reveal the influence of Irish art.
Translation of the text:
First chapter:
I gave a first account, O Théophile, of all that Jesus started
to do and teach, until the day he was taken up to the sky after having
given, via the Holy Ghost, his instructions to the chosen Apostles.
It is to them that he revealed himself alive after his crucifixion, giving
them many proofs in his apparitions which lasted forty days, speaking
to them of the Kingdom of God.
